In 2002 talk about a fourth chapter in the Jurassic Park franchise started making it’s way around hollywood. Joe Johnston, the director of the third film, was set to direct this one. William Monahan was hired to write the script and the release date was set for Summer 2005. By 2003 they had a completed draft and were moving into filming around 2004. April 2004 comes around and John Sayles begins to re-write the script and the film is re-slated for a Winter 2005 release. In February 2006 there was another delay because Spielberg felt that neither of the scripts were balancing Science and Adventure well enough. Finally a third script was created and the film was set for filming in 2007 and a release in 2008.
In 2008 Michael Crichton, the author of the Jurassic Park novel, passed away and Producer Kathleen Kennedy thought that it may be a sign not to mess with the project. Yet in 2009 Joe Johnston began speaking about the possiblity of Jurassic Park IV and that it may follow a different path to another trilogy. Last month Joe Johnston was interviewed and confirmed that Jurassic Park IV was in fact in th works. He stated also that the film would in fact be a start to a second trilogy and would be “Unlike anything you’ve ever seen.” With the rollercoaster of a track record behind this project it’s uncertain if this will actually happen this year.
Throughout the years of back and forth script writing and delays there have been a number of cast members looking into the project. Jeff Goldblum showed some interest, Richard Attenborough and even Sam Neill who would reprise the role of Dr. Alan Grant. As of now there is no new on who will star in the film and they haven’t confirmed a plot or release date.
