In 2007 I read about a movie coming out called Fanboys and being a fan of Star Wars I was excited by the news. Unfortunately it was pushed back to 2008 and stayed in limbo while a war waged between the creators and the Weinstein Company. Finally on February 6th, 2009 the movie was put into theaters and available for the fans like me who were dying to see it.

From director Kyle Newman comes a movie that follows Hutch (Dan Fogler), Linus ( Chris Marquette) Windows (Jay Baruchel) and Zoe ( Kristen Bell) who are four friends who are obsessed with Star Wars. On Halloween night 1998 they are regrouped with their old high school friend Eric(Sam Huntington) who was once a fan like them but fell out of the obsession to “grow up”. Upon finding out that his best friend Linus has cancer and only has four months to live, unfortunately Star Wars: The Phantom Menace doesn’t come out for six. So Eric and the rest of the group decide to convince Linus to embark on a trip they had planned since fifth grade. A trip of epic proportions if you will, to drive across country and steal the rough cut from Lucas Ranch.

Although I’ve read a few bad reviews about this movie I don’t believe that they are accurate. During the screening I was part of, everyone was laughing at all the jokes and references and were clapping and talking about how gret they thought it was. I left the theater wishing that it was already available on DVD because I couldn’t get enough of it. The constant Star Wars references and actual dialog being reproduced were especially funny. I felt like part of that was because I could relate it back to the group of friends I have and the way we include Star Wars in a lot of the conversations we have. All the actors did a great job portraying their characters and delivering the lines perfectly. One of my favorite things was all the all-star cameos that were in the movie, non of which I want to give away.  So in my opinion this movie gets a five out of five in my book and I’m sure it’s the same for all my friends.

Rating: If you’re a fan of Star Wars- Buy it.

If your not familiar with Saga: Possibly rent it.
