Paramount Pictures announced that they were going to make a musical remake of Footloose. Although the original was not a musical there are rumors that this is going to be based off of the Footloose  musical on broadway. 

   Zac Efron was cast as Ren but he dropped the role because he  wanted to take a break from musicals. Chace Crawford (Gossip Girls) will be taking his place for the lead role. Recording artist Keithian is in talks to play Ren’s best friend and Julianne Hough(Dancing with the Stars) is set to play Ariel if her schedule permits.

  Despite all this the film has since been taken off of Paramount’s release schedule and it’s fate remains unknown.
