Remakes, Reboots, Re-imaginings, the three R’s of Hollywood. Another reboot that has caught my eye is the Total Recall project.

Now something I didn’t know was that Total Recall was loosely based on a short story by Philip K. Dick entitled “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale”. One of the major differences between the 1990 movie and the story is that the story does not have anything to do with mars. The new reboot is also said to not deal at all with mars and is to be more like the short story. This is the plot according to IMDb.com:

“As the nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai vie for supremacy, a factory worker begins to suspect that he’s a spy, though he’s unaware which side of the fight he’s on.”

If this is the case then why even name the movie Total Recall. No mars? No three boobed alien chick? No scenes with our main character’s eyeballs being sucked out of their face? Then I ask what is the point? I mean now that I think about it the movie sounds like it could have potential, but with the name it’s carrying people who are fans of Total Recall are going to be expecting something a lot different.

So far Kate Beckinsale, Bill Nighy, Jessica Beil, Ethan Hawk, Colin Farrell and John Cho are some of the official cast members.Len Wiseman, of the Underworld series, is set to direct this project.
