At San Diego Comic ConGoosebumps it was announced that the Goosebumps movie was finally in production. I hadn’t heard any information about this movie until well after comic con. The plot, as of now, is that teen Zach Cooper meets the new neighbor, Hannah, who is R.L. Stine’s niece or daughter. In the movie R.L. Stine’s monsters are actually real and become trapped in his books when he writes them. Zach somehow releases the monsters and they have to team up to get them back into the books.

Jack Black was in attendance at the panel during comic con and was joined by some of the monsters that will make an appearance in the movie. Some of the monsters on stage with him were Slappy from Night of the Living Dummy, the Clown from Murder the Clown, the Scarecrows from Scarecrows Walk At Midnight, the High Lord Executioner from A Night in Terror Tower, the Mantises from Shocker on Shock Street and the Haunted Mask from The Haunted Mask.

To some this movie may sound a little dumb, but to be honest I think it should be given a chance. This could definitely be a fun movie to go see whether you have kids or grew up reading these books as a kid. The director, Rob Letterman, directed Monsters vs. Aliens and Shark Tale, which were both good animated movies. The movie also has some good writers handling the screen play. Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski both worked on the Stephen King adaptation 1408 and wrote Ed Wood together, Carl Ellsworth wrote Disturbia and the 2009 remake of Last House on the Left and Darren Lemke wrote Jack the Giant Slayer and Turbo.  There’s a nice range of genres from children’s films to Horror and thriller between the four of them. I think that this movie has the potential to be a great, fun film to go see.
