The last time I wrote about the upcoming IT remake was in 2010 and it was attached to a possible 2011 release. Since then it’s lost director Cary Fukunaga (Jane Eyre, True Detective) over creative differences occurring after Warner Brothers moved the project over to New Line Cinema. Apparently New Line Cinema was trying to change a lot of the visions that Cary had for this project and he felt that it was making the movie less dark and gritty. New Line eventually replaced him with Mama director Andres Muschietti.
As for Will Poulter (We’re the Millers, The Revenant), I’m not one hundred percent sure if he was just passed up for the role of Pennywise or if he backed out due to the departure of Cary as director. Either way he was replaced by Bill Skarsgard (Hemlock Grove), who has been seen around set without the Pennywise makeup so far.
Entertainment Weekly released this photo of the makeup for the movie recently though. Not an exact duplicate of the Tim Curry makeup we’ve all come to fear, but it does give me that same chill up my spine.

My only concern about this remake is that I hope it doesn’t fall victim to the same big budget production idea’s that ruined remakes like Poltergeist. I’m not a huge fan of remakes, unless they bring something different to the table. I like remakes that take the story that I already love and show me it in a different light. Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake, while talked down among people I know, was one of those remakes that ,I thought, put a fresh and dark spin on the original. With that being said, I would enjoy to see a darker version of Pennywise in this adaptation of the story. It would also be really cool to see the story follow the book in ways that the TV adaptation didn’t touch on. I want this movie to give me the same nightmares that it did the first time I watched it at the age of seven. The movie is set to be released on September 8th, 2017 , so until then I’m going to be eagerly waiting for a teaser or trailer or at least more set photos to be released.
